RETINOPATHY OF PREMATURITY (ROP) is a disease of Retina that develops in the newborn PRETERM babies born before 34 weeks of gestation and who weighs less than 2.5 kg at birth.

Babies who were given Oxygen therapy and on Ventilators have high risk.

If not treated in time, this can lead to permanent blindness in a child due to total Retinal Detachment.
Such babies need special care, So we have a dedicated set of instruments for eye examination and these cases are dealt on priority.
Treatment is done by
1. Retinal Lasers
2. Intravitreal injections
3. Retinal Surgery
For Critical Babies, Examination and Lasers are done directly in NICUs.
Counseling and Emotional Support to Parents are the keys to handle such sensitive situations.
